Carl's Story

Thanks to you, Carl can help his disabled son to live his best life!

Carl* is a very active full-leg amputee – he loves sport and does all sorts of fundraising challenges for charity.

Earlier in 2022, he had to give up work because he had to take on the full-time care of his little son Ben* who has a mobility problem and communication difficulties. Ben has been through lots of operations for his foot which has caused ligament damage so he can’t walk very well and it gets very painful.

Carl is a great dad – he is so attentive to his little boy and wants to do the very best for him, to help him lead a full life. He wanted to be able to take Ben out and about, particularly to the park to be able to play with his friends. But with only one sound leg, he struggled to get his son from the car to the play area – and once there, Ben needs somewhere to sit down and rest because of his foot. So initially, Carl contacted us to see if we might help with a grant for a three-wheeled buggy for Ben, which we secured through ACTS435.

In the process of talking with Carl, we discovered that he wasn’t getting any extra money to help with Ben’s care – he had been told that there was nothing available, which is not the case. So we helped him to complete a Disabled Living Allowance application. It will take some time to process, but hopefully, he will be successful and it will really help the two of them. The amount could range from around £200 to £600 a month extra, on top of the basic benefits they have to live on.
